Pocket Gnome: The Lowdown

Many forum regulars have noticed that I haven’t been around as much recently. Some might think it’s a bad thing, but it could end up being a good thing; so please, hear me out.

The truth is that my work on PG got me an incredible job offer. That is good (for me). The downside is I have no time left to seriously work on Pocket Gnome.

But do not despair! While I may not have time to update PG with my usual speed, I will do my utmost to make sure the project does not die. Attempting to understand and accommodate all the changes since patch 3.0.x has demonstrated to me, very succinctly, how much of an awkward situation I am in. I’ve ended up scrambling to fix bugs in PG while I’m still scrambling to understand wtf Blizzard did to the client.

So here’s the situation:

  1. It would be irresponsible for me to continue the project under my current life/time restrictions.
  2. I would like to ensure that the project does not die.

In a perfect world, I could sell the project or pass it on to another developer. So far, neither of these options has ended in results (For the record, if you are interested in purchasing or developing the Pocket Gnome project, please contact me: pocketgnome@_this_domain.com).

That said, I plan on open sourcing the project after WotLK hits.

Pocket Gnome 1.0.9

New stuff today in Pocket Gnome, primarily a few of the most requested features (along with the requisite little changes I can never recall).

Did I fix PvP queueing in 1.0.9? I don’t know. Try it out for me.

  • The Bot now uses Combat Profiles to configure how it acts. These allow you to save combat settings, such as what type of units you attack, and your attack range. These profiles now also support ignore lists, where you can define certain types of mobs to ignore. You can all thank SilverSix311 for bugging me non-stop about this.
  • New “Is Indoors?” predicate, available in the Status Condition. It’s not perfect, but it will tell you with nearly 100% accuracy if you are on or inside a building. It does not know if you are able to mount inside the building (as you can in some), just that you are inside the building.
  • New “Temporary Enchantment” Condition. This condition will allow you to check for the existence of any temporary enchant (such as Shaman weapon buffs or Rogue poisons) on either of your weapons. It does not know which enchant exists, only that there is one. The rest is up to you.

There is a thread for 1.0.9 on the forums. Stop by and let us know how it worked out (and how it didn’t).

A Real Face for the Site

I installed WordPress to try and give the site an actual presence, as much as I loved the old “3 icons on a white background” look. Everything else here is still the same :)

You can find the links to Pocket Gnome, GoneFishing, and NodeAnnounce in the sidebar on the right.
