Pocket Gnome: The Lowdown

Many forum regulars have noticed that I haven’t been around as much recently. Some might think it’s a bad thing, but it could end up being a good thing; so please, hear me out.

The truth is that my work on PG got me an incredible job offer. That is good (for me). The downside is I have no time left to seriously work on Pocket Gnome.

But do not despair! While I may not have time to update PG with my usual speed, I will do my utmost to make sure the project does not die. Attempting to understand and accommodate all the changes since patch 3.0.x has demonstrated to me, very succinctly, how much of an awkward situation I am in. I’ve ended up scrambling to fix bugs in PG while I’m still scrambling to understand wtf Blizzard did to the client.

So here’s the situation:

  1. It would be irresponsible for me to continue the project under my current life/time restrictions.
  2. I would like to ensure that the project does not die.

In a perfect world, I could sell the project or pass it on to another developer. So far, neither of these options has ended in results (For the record, if you are interested in purchasing or developing the Pocket Gnome project, please contact me: pocketgnome@_this_domain.com).

That said, I plan on open sourcing the project after WotLK hits.

Double Licenses for PG, GF

Due to some unexpected changes at PayPal, newly registered users are receiving double emails following a purchase of Pocket Gnome or GoneFishing. These duplicate emails are the result of PayPal sending us two notifications for received payments, thus leading our registration server to generate two licenses and mail them out.

Why is PayPal doing this? We have no idea. But I suppose if Pocket Gnome development is any indication, the old adage must hold true: “If it ain’t broke, fix it ’till it is.”

In the meantime, since both mailed licenses are completely identical in every way, you may disregard, delete, or do what you please with the second one.

Skeptical About Pocket Gnome?

Try it out on a free 10-day trial account of World of Warcraft. Trial accounts cost nothing, and are in no way tied to your primary WoW account — so there is no risk of getting banned or running afoul of Blizzard. You can signup for a free 10-day trial by visiting Blizzard’s Free Trial webpage.

If you’re already experienced with Pocket Gnome, there’s also the option of Blizzard’s enhanced Recruit a Friend program. There are no restrictions with who you can recruit, and you can even recruit yourself! Recruited accounts have additional benefits, such as triple experience and an ‘exclusive’ zhevra mount, which you can use alongside Pocket Gnome to level your characters faster than ever before.

If you are skeptical about Pocket Gnome, give it a try today on a free WoW account and see what it can do for you.

Pocket Gnome 1.0.9

New stuff today in Pocket Gnome, primarily a few of the most requested features (along with the requisite little changes I can never recall).

Did I fix PvP queueing in 1.0.9? I don’t know. Try it out for me.

  • The Bot now uses Combat Profiles to configure how it acts. These allow you to save combat settings, such as what type of units you attack, and your attack range. These profiles now also support ignore lists, where you can define certain types of mobs to ignore. You can all thank SilverSix311 for bugging me non-stop about this.
  • New “Is Indoors?” predicate, available in the Status Condition. It’s not perfect, but it will tell you with nearly 100% accuracy if you are on or inside a building. It does not know if you are able to mount inside the building (as you can in some), just that you are inside the building.
  • New “Temporary Enchantment” Condition. This condition will allow you to check for the existence of any temporary enchant (such as Shaman weapon buffs or Rogue poisons) on either of your weapons. It does not know which enchant exists, only that there is one. The rest is up to you.

There is a thread for 1.0.9 on the forums. Stop by and let us know how it worked out (and how it didn’t).

Pocket Gnome 1.0.8

This release fixes some minor issues stemming from the WoW 2.4.3 patch, as well as adds a few new things.

  • Bot will no longer pause when performing only instant spells during the Patrolling procedure (you must reload your spell data from wowhead to take advantage of this feature). If there is any non-instant spell, item, or macro defined as an action in the Patrolling rules, the Bot will pause regardless of whether the action will actually be performed.
  • Waypoints Table is more user-friendly. You can now move or delete more than one waypoint at a time, as well as copy/paste waypoints between Routes.
  • Reworked the Combat Blacklist. Blacklist timer remains at 15 seconds, but if the same target gets blacklisted 3 times, the listing becomes permanent as long as the bot is running.

There’s more, too, but I forget most of them. I gotta write this stuff down.

Pocket Gnome 1.0.5

This release fixes issues relating to the new “Patrolling Procedure” released in version 1.0.4.

  • The Patrolling Procedure is no longer executed while your character is dead.
  • The Patrolling Procedure will no longer stall if the action failed, but continue on to the next waypoint instead.

1.0.5 also adds some additional error-checking to the PvP process to ensure proper behavior when leaving a battleground.

A Real Face for the Site

I installed WordPress to try and give the site an actual presence, as much as I loved the old “3 icons on a white background” look. Everything else here is still the same :)
